Our very good friends Andy & Steve Butcher from Norfolk have been staying in Fowey this week in a fab apartment. On our Sunday off we enjoyed coffee on their balcony with fabulous views over Fowey and Polruan, with the boats in the harbour.
To celebrate Andy’s birthday, our first meet up in Cornwall, and of course for research after coffee we headed off to Sam’s on the beach. This is Andy’s favourite eating place, and for John and I it was our first visit but we have heard rave reviews. Sam’s sits right on Polkerris beach and so has the most wonderful sea views. The atmosphere is great, and it is clearly a very popular place and not surprisingly just for the view alone.
We are all big fans of fish and seafood and there was an excellent choice. We feasted on garlic pizza bread to start, followed by scallops, sardines, spaghetti, marinara, and seafood pizza. As it was fish seafood/fish all round, we enjoyed a bottle of the house white with our meal. All dishes were presented lovely, of a very generous size, and most of all they were absolutely delicious. Four clean plates, and an empty bottle :). Excellent value for such quality food, top service and a view you would find hard to beat. Highly recommended, and the only downside is that inside is not dog friendly, though in warmer weather there are lots of seats outside and which more or less touch the beach. For walkers, this place make a great lunch stop off if walking around to Polkerris from Fowey along the south west coastal place.
