Our giant bee hives

IMG_7111We hope you had a very merry Christmas and happy new year to you all.

The Meadows Team (me Lynn, John and Camp Dog Harvey) spent a very enjoyable Christmas “up country”.  We were very busy ticking off jobs on our outside to do list before heading off,  making the most of the relatively dry and mild winter weather to do so.  There has been lots of chainsawing, chopping, splitting, shredding, digging, planting and wheel-barrowing various materials around the site.

We have now planted all of our lovely new plants, some behind a granite stone miniature wall which we have built with some fabulous small granite boulders.  The new fern bed on the stream side, has a gorgeous tree fern as the centre piece and lots of tree stumps keeping the plants company.

Our log pyramids have multiplied and have been compared to giant bee hives.

To ensure the continued great workings of our new land drainage system we have had a digger on site clearing out all ditches, and our “proper camping” area has been verti drained, or spiked.  We have also put in a couple of new drainage runs, and so we are pleased we had got all this done prior to our Christmas break.

The walk down to Hallane Beach

Of course, we are never to busy for getting out walking, and we have put some miles on the clock.  We have had some lovely walks including a lovely walk on Par Beach following our delicious pre Christmas lunch at Sams on the Beach.  We also enjoyed a Sunday walk that we know was one of the favourite of our guests in 2014 and that was a walk on the trail picking up the SWCP and walking to Charlestown, returning via the little lanes.  This really is a fabulous walk at any time of the year, and we always have a stop off at the gorgeous Hallane Beach.  We have also extended our top favourite Mevagissey circular walk, to include walking on to Chapel Point and the gorgeous Colona Beach via Portmellon (and the Rising Sun Pub).

NEWS FROM CAMP DOG HARVEY

Well there is only so much cockerel and turkey a dog can eat, and so it is back to a diet of softly boiled egg, ham and bakers for me.  Before heading off to spend Christmas with my cousins I made sure I fitted in lots of trips to my favourite beaches.  One of my current favourites has been Pendower Beach on the Roseland with lunch at The Roseland Inn at Philleigh, including a pint of shag (brewed next door) for Camp Daddy, and lots of dog treats and a big roaring log fire for me.  On our last visit out that way we also walked the woodland walk at Trellisick Gardens, and crossed back over on the King Harry Ferry which made it a full day out.

I have also been enjoying winter beach walks at Gorran Haven, Vault and Caerhays, the latter especially because there are pheasants there in abundance and we all know that spaniels love pheasants.

It seems that The Meadows is growing in popularity, not only with humans.  For 2015 I already have 2 cats, 2 cockatiels, and a African Grey Congo Parrott booked in, all of whom have assured my owners that they are happy with the meadows’ camping etiquette and like us dogs.

BOOKINGS

Of course, now that the Christmas period is over, we know lots of campers will start thinking about planning their camping trips for 2015.  We are looking forward to seeing both returning guests and new guests and we will all keep our fingers crossed for another great summer filled with lots of glorious sunshine.

Please note that at the present time due to telephone issues the only way to book is by email contact, and you can do so here.

For those of you not in the know, and doing your research, The Meadows Campsite is a smallish adult only campsite, great for camping close to Mevagissey and Heligan Gardens.  We are situate in the Pentewan Valley, South Cornwall and we are very dog friendly, and ideally situate for those who like walking, cycling and visiting the gorgeous gardens of Cornwall. This year we will have new campervan pitches at the fore of our fabulous and very popular wild flower meadow.

Just a reminder of summer camping at The Meadows, and this year our grass will be greener, and our wildflower meadow even more colourful and wild.  There will also be added extras as now that the essential work has been completed, this year there is far more time for beautifying.
