We are almost ready to open the gates

Posted on April 19, 2017 by Comments Off on We are almost ready to open the gates

Well, the last winter flew by.  On the whole the Cornish weather was very kind to us and made light of all of the outdoor work.  It has not been all work this winter, and we have enjoyed some lovely holidays.  Our favourite holiday was a 3 week walking holiday in La Palma.  The Island made Cornwall walking seem like flat walking.  We certainly returned feeling fit, and as usual food and wine had been a big part of the holiday too!  Camp Dog Harvey has also had a couple of stays at his favourite health farm in Leicestershire.  Harvey also returned home after his 3 week stay looking a picture of health.

Our woods stocks have been replenished, which has now become the main part of our winter work.  We have stuck with our giant bee hive stacks as they are just the job, and hold so much in each one.  The majority of the wood is our own, with a few donations here and there of good unwanted stuff given to us for logging.  Plenty of wood for the ever popular campfires, and we are sure the stacks will be depleted as quickly as they went up.

We have also this winter put up a new “campers’ shed”.  This houses the ice pack freezer, and also a very nice handmade phone charging facility.  We realised that when our guests were on holiday they did not want to worry about getting back before our office closed.  Of course some of our guests also like a good lie in when on holiday and don’t want to be setting the alarm just to get up to collect ice packs.  The new shed will be open 24 7 on a help your selves basis.

We have been blessed recently with lots and lots of sunshine and so everything natural is coming in to its own nice and early.  The wildflower meadow has a few flowers already.  The yellow flag irises are coming on well too,  and the trees are already full of colour.

There has been spotting on the campsite this winter of a Weasel, and not just a fleeing glimpse.  The woodpeckers are also still here, as is the nuthatch and of course the owls are always hooting well.

This week, we have been planning our pop ups for the season.  The bad news is that there will be no fish & chips this year.  Ross has swapped his chef whites for a nurses uniform and is now a fully qualified nurse.  We will miss Ross, Jen and their scrummy fish and chips and wish them both all the very best.

Wood fired pizzas are back – yeah :), and once again on a Tuesday.  Anna will accompany Simon and his team and will be serving up cocktails.  Anna has been working on a caravan this winter making a cocktail bar, and we cannot wait to see it.  If it is ready it will get a trial run for the first bank holiday weekend, but being a work in progress this is not a definite.

Pizza Simon has also now another string to his bow and will be here also on a Thursday with his griddle and oven.  Simon’s plan is to cook up his excellent burgers and may be also an oven dish.  There was a trial of Simon’s burgers last season, and our view was that The Hub Box would be given a run for its money.  As before Simon does look after the vegetarians out there.  Anna will also be making Thursday a regular night for cocktails, and so how lucky are we.

Anna and her cocktail caravan are also hoping to make some weekend appearances, but on a more pop up basis.  Anna is also hoping to do pop up food on certain weekend nights.  We will be getting all the boards ready to hang out to keep everyone posted as to what is popping up and when so you don’t miss out.

Breakfasts should also be happening here again at The Meadows.  Amanda has been on exotic solo travels this winter and so we are looking forward to hearing all about them.  We will keep you updated on breakfasts but we hope it will all be similar to last year.

Bookings – these have come in thick and fast during the winter.  There are some weeks where all of our hook up pitches are booked out already.  There are not many weekly spaces available with electric, although there are still some if you get in there quick.

Our “proper camping” is also filling up as of our course our wildflower meadow with it’s secluded pitches is ever so popular.  We are hoping our campers’ shed will convert some of those usually taking electric to get further “down field”.

Map – for our first time visitors and as a memory joggers to our returning guests we now have a map.  It is we think a happy map, but it should give newbies a general idea of the layout of the site.  There is a pdf downloadable version on our website.

To book you can contact us here, or telephone 01726 844383.  For those visiting for the first time, we are an adult only campsite (no offence kids), and dog friendly in Pentewan, South Cornwall.  We are situate on the Pentewan Valley Trail (Coast to Clay) cycle & walking trail, which links up to the SWCP. We are great for Heligan Gardens as you can walk there on the trail and receive a discount for doing so.  If you are fairly fit, you can cycle from our campsite to the Eden Project.  Mevagissey and Pentewan are also in walking distance (1 hr to Meva & 30 mins to Pentewan).  We look forward to seeing lots of familiar friendly faces soon, and some new faces too!

Well, the sun is shining and those last minute jobs and the fresh air are calling !

Our campers have been getting in the water…….

Posted on June 11, 2016 by Comments Off on Our campers have been getting in the water…….

We have had a super couple of weeks of very warm and sunny weather, and with lovely warm evenings too.

Our guests have certainly been making the most of the fabulous weather, and getting out and on, and in the water.  A number of our guests have taken up my recommendation of kayaking down the Fowey Estuary, and have thoroughly enjoyed this.  Kingfishers and all sorts of wildlife have been spotted, and the less experienced guests have not found it too difficult. Have a look at Fowey River Hire for more information.

DSC_6727The sea must also have warmed up since we opened, and our Wild Swimmers had their first swim camp.  There has been lots of sea dipping, and swimming both by dogs and humans. Our most popular coves for swimming seem to be Caerhays, Gorran Haven and Duporth.

Also out on the water Mackerel fishing trips are also very popular already, and we have smelt them cooking on the BBQ, so campers are being very lucky and getting a good catch.

Lazys picJohn and I find every week to be a completely different week on the campsite, with a new group of campers.  Our guests always seem to be a friendly bunch, and this is probably one of the most commented upon points about our campsite.  With our pop ups, and our lovely sunny seated deck, guests love to share their experiences and enjoy a cocktail and fire pit together! There has been some impromptu (always the best), singing and guitar playing, and even The Cornish Maid gave us a lovely tune one evening.

The green stripy deckchairs are becoming the most used “communal” deckchairs out, being used for breakfast, pre-dinner beer and cocktails, and even for devouring pizzas and fish and chips around the fire pit.  I have even joined in with my outdoor office, when my little shed was just a tad on the warm side, and so Harv and I moved outdoors.

Now so far, based upon guests’ feedback, these are the most popular places so far this season:-

  1. Caerhays Beach  – for swimming and sunbathing, with a gorgeous cafe for drinks, ice and lunch. This cover Caerhaysis also popular for parking up with your campervan, with a sea view on a showery day, ready to make a sharp exit and put the kettle on !
  2. Duporth beach (close to Charlestown) – in recent fab weather times, it is like being in paradise.
  3. Knightor Winery – for wine tours, and lunch outside in the lovely terraced courtyard.
  4. Kayaking – for novices, the most popular is a trip down the Fowey Estuary to Golant with Fowey River Hire. Our more experienced kayakers, like Porthpean and have been seal spotting from here, and Pentewan and Polkerris are also popular.
  5. All our pop ups are going down a treat so far this season as already mentioned.  Our campers feel very lucky themeadows-camping-food-and-drink-pizzato be able to sample one of top ten pizzas in the Country (as featured in The Times).
  6. S7000414Homemade (not by me) dog bandanas and bunting. Ours campers love getting in the spirit of things. In one day, I sold 13 bandanas, and so The Meadows must have the best dressed dogs in Cornwall.
  7. For food, our guests are loving The Hub Box, Sams on the Beach, The Kingswood Restaurant, and The Polgooth when there isn’t any food on offer at the Campsite.
  8. Heligan Gardens and Trewithen Gardens are looking fabulous at the moment as reported by our guests. The majority of our guests are enjoying walking up to Heligan and the £3.50 pp discount for doing so is Henry Cav - Ferrygetting them up the hill.
  9. As always the Mevagissey to Fowey has been on a lot of our guests must do things, and the welcome cooler air out at sea has gone down a treat.
  10. Walking – we have a new favourite. Our guests are all enjoying a circular walk from Mevaggisey to Gorran Haven SWCP, and then back via footpaths taking in a lovely wooded valley bringing you back out at Portmellon.  If you want to do this walk, just ask us the way. Of course the Mevagissey circular walk remains as popular as ever, picking up Lobbs Farm Treats, and fish from Mevagissey harbour on route.
  11. Even during the heatwave,  our fire pits have been very popular.  Some days, delivery has required the use of the tractor and trailer with all fire pits, bbq and wood deliveries as the legs and wheelbarrow did just not cut it.

NEWS from Camp Dog Harvey –  If I was on commission for bandana sales, I would be holidaying inS7000534 Barbados this winter! Am always happy to pass my opinion on colour and style, and  whether it makes your bum look big ;).  I am counting down the days at the moment to my high season haircut, as I am starting to resemble a woolly sheep.

One of our regular guests arrived this week, with a new sign for me, and it is nice to see how seriously my role here is taken.

Arriving with us this week? – Falmouth is the place to visit.  Between 17-19 June there is the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, and the Falmouth Classics Regatta. Our pop ups will all be popping up too!

S7000293BOOKINGS – we are at present pretty full for both hook ups and “proper camping” from now really well in to August.   For late availability, you are best to give us a call to see what we can do.  Our booking system is a flexible one, so we have people coming and going every day, which means we do have the odd gaps here and there, and cancellations do come about.

For those who don’t know, we are a smallish adult only campsite in South Cornwall, close to Pentewan and Mevagissey.  We are a good campsite for walkers and cyclists and those who want to enjoy the gardens of Heligan and Eden. We are campfire and dog friendly, and we have visiting pop ups throughout the season.

Camping, grown up style……

Posted on May 26, 2016 by Comments Off on Camping, grown up style……

IMG_7102After you have ensured that you are not booking in to anything other than an “adults only campsite”, (we are dog friendly too) it is time to check out the best of what is on offer for grown ups.

I have done lots of posts about walking (which I love), food (which I also love), and so for some other ideas if you are visiting soon:-

  1. Last year quite a number of our guests ventured out with Fowey River Hire this was for the guided canoe expeditions, and also hiring kayaks out.  The feedback was excellent and indeed guests have even told us that they enjoyed it so much they have bought their own kayaks for this year. This years dates and times are out with regular expeditions and for more information prior to arriving check out their website. The Fowey Estuary really is a great place to try out kayaking and is not only beautiful, but the waters are far calmer than out on the open sea.  If it is a guided tour, then my understanding is that there is usually a stop off at the pub in the pretty Golant village.
  2. imageOur guests seem to be a fit bunch, and so I am sure some of you would be up for cycling along the trail and country lanes to visit a few of the local vineyards. In one direction, there is Polmassick Vineyard and also very close by Bosue Vineyard.  Both do tasting and tours, and at Polmassick cream teas are also available.  A good cycle ride, but well worth it in another direction you will find Knightor Winery. As well as tasting and tours, Knightor has a lovely cafe & restaurant open in the daytime and evenings, and they host also feast nights which make for a great night out. Need a bike then contact Stuart at Pentewan Valley Cycle Hire
  3. Campers who venture out to Falmouth always seem to have a good day out, and Falmouth is one our favourite Cornish towns.  There are lots of little independent shops, a huge choice of restaurants, and lots of Henry Cav - Ferrylittle ferry crossings to the likes of St Mawes, Flushing and other boaty places. Head out there 17-19 June and you will see the Falmouth Classics Regatta. A little bit later in June 27 June-2 July it is the Pendennis Cup. Whilst out that way, it would be a good time to take a little diversion and head off to The Pandora Inn at Restronguet.  This was last year voted the best pub in Cornwall and you will not be disappointed.
  4. ferryMy idea of a great car free day out would be an early start and catch the first ferry over to Fowey. On landing in Fowey, I would head off to Pinky Murphys for coffee.  After a mooch around Fowey, I would walk round on the SWCP to Polkerris and feast outside at Sams on the Beach with a bowl of gorgeous Fowey River Mussels. Depending if time was in my favour, it would be the bus or ferry back.  If time was in my favour I would walk back from Mevagissey via Lobbs Farm Shop and pick up some goodies for supper.

cyderfarmNot forgetting for the beer/cider lovers out there St Austell Brewery Tour, Skinners Brewery Tour, and Healeys Cider Farm.  Well, I say tour, but of course it is tour and sample, as the two go hand in hand.  If heading to Skinners you can catch the bus or train to st-austell-breweryTruro then nobody has to drive.  St Austell Brewery is just up the road, but again on the bus route.

Food

I don’t think I can write a post without including food!!

For the foodies out there, our regular wood fired pizza and fish & chips start in June, and also breakfasts.   Also on in June locally are

18-25 June 2106 St Austell Feast Week

21-22 June Fowey Mussel Fest

News from Camp Dog Harvey (aka HRH)S7000414

For all you handbag dogs out there I have passed on the bandana feedback and hopefully a selection of smaller ones will arrive in time for Summer.  Great for the forthcoming heatwave as you can wet it and keep cool, in more ways than one.

What I have learnt this week from under the desk!  New answer for “can you walk to the Eden Project from here” – technically, yes you can, and around it and back as someone did from here the other day.  I was well impressed but now in my more mature years, I won’t be following suit ;).

IMG_7106Bookings – our diary is a very busy one, with only the odd gaps here and there, and a couple of cancellations available.  This is except at the moment for “proper camping” between 3-10 June.  There must be something really, really exciting going on elsewhere in the Country.  However, if you are a spur of the moment camper, why not take up this opportunity of lots of space and book.  This could of course all change very quickly if the anticipated 90 day heatwave transpires.

The Meadows Campsite is an adult only (and dog friendly) campsite/caravan site in South Cornwall, close to Heligan, Eden, Mevagissey and Charlestown.  We love campfires, bunting, all things quirky and people from all walks of life.

To book call 01726 844383, or complete the contact form and you will get a swift response.

Spring Bank Holiday Camping Bonanza……

Posted on May 16, 2016 by Comments Off on Spring Bank Holiday Camping Bonanza……

IMG_7106After a fabulous first bank holiday weekend, we have been working hard to make the second just as good.

Well, using our extensive powers of charm and persuasion, we have persuaded our local pop ups to pop along over the weekend.  This means there will be a way of escaping  the half term madness, and you can retreat back to camp in the evening.  We have new fire pits, and all of the old ones too, and our wood stacks, are still a plenty.

For all those booked in, here  is what is on offer for the weekend:-

  1. Sunday – we have Cornish breakfast including doorstep sandwiches made with Kittows Sausage and bacon, and other delights served up by the Cornish Maid.Lazys pic
  2. Saturday evening – the Cornish Maid will be here serving up Chilli Nachos or similar.
  3. Sunday evening, we have Kernowforno (as recently featured in The Times 😉 ) here, cooking up their amazing wood fired pizzas fresh to order.
  4. To go with our pop up food Lazys (by name, but not by nature) Travelling Bar will be here.  I understand that this time there will be some new cider cocktails on the menu amongst other things.

From the beginning of June, our regular nights will also be starting with pizzas on Tuesdays, and fish & chips on a Thursday. The pop up bar and Cornish Maid (breakfast) will also be making regular appearances

Our pop ups now have their own page on our website – please  check this out, with some great pictures that I will add to as the season revs up a gear, or two!

Now, as for the weather, it has to be kind and the long term forecast does look that way.  For long term, John andS7000509 I look at the farmers’ forecast.  For short term, after recent inaccurate BBC forecasting we came up with our own weather stone.

S7000242For bank holiday walking, Heligan Gardens is looking lovely.  The walk up there is also lovely and hopefully the bluebells will still be out.  The walkers discount offered by Heligan should be enough to get you up the hill. The SWCP is also looking fabulous as our walking guests are keeping us regularly updated.

The season so far has got off to a great start, and there has been lots of lovely guests visiting.  Last week Camp Dog Harvey made a new friend called Derek.  Derek has been a cavalier owner all of his life and is 94! A sole motor homer owner who had come a long way to see Cornwall once again, and certainly did not let his age stand in his way. Heligan Garden, Caerhays, Ferrying from Mevagissey to Fowey were all ticked off. With the great weather there was also plenty of time for relaxing on the campsite in a chair with a good book.  Derek did  lots of book swaps, and so if you pick up a Clive Cussler whilst you are here, it is probably one of his.

The wildflower meadow should be looking super by the time the bank holiday is upon us.  Everything has all of a sudden gone mad, and the ragged robin and yellow flag irises are shooting up.

If John can just catch our resident moles who are giving us a daily runaround all would be fabulous.  Moles are very cute creatures, but why do they like the greenest areas of the campsite.

News from Camp Dog – I am now back in the swing of everything.  I am first in the office in the morning, and S7000414last out at night (very true) ! Apart from being trodden on a few times, life is good being back on duty.  All of those on four legs have been extremely well behaved. With my stylish good looks I have made a few dog bandana sales and so am earning my keep.

IMG_7102Bookings – there is not a lot left now for hook ups until the end of August, except for the odd cancellations that come in.  For “proper camping” (none electric) there are many dates where we are down to our last couple of spaces for advance booking.  This means if you have us in mind, then please get in touch sooner rather than later.

Touring Cornwall the Cool Camping way – we are always worth a try if it is just for the odd night, or two.  Please give us a call, or email us, or just drop in should you be passing by. The Meadows is just for adults, and very dog friendly, and a great spot if you enjoy walking/cycling and don’t mind a few hills.  Situate in the Pentewan Valley, The Meadows is great for Mevagissey, Heligan and even the Eden Project.

Getting ready for inspection by our campers!

Posted on March 31, 2016 by Comments Off on Getting ready for inspection by our campers!

The opening of the gates is fast approaching, and all the jobs are getting completed.IMG_7111

At this time of the year, we always think back to the previous seasons and most importantly what we have learnt along the way.  As a lot of regular guests will know, we were complete novices when we arrived here back in 2012, and so we had to learn quickly.

One thing we learnt quickly is that we cannot be all things to all campers.  We came here with a good idea of how we wanted our campsite to be, and we have pretty much stuck to this.  Our general idea and ethos,  seems to work well. So many of our guests comment on the extremely relaxed, respectful and very friendly atmosphere on the campsite, which is created by our guests.

However, we do also like to learn from our guests, and there are always ways we can improve the campsite, even if it is just tweaking, whilst staying true to ourselves and not resting on our laurels.  This is where our guests reviews come in very useful indeed, although of course this is only one way to use independent reviews.  Reviews are great for us, and it enables new guests to get independent views of The Meadows before making the all important decision as to is it a campsite for them!

John and I, of and of course Harvey too who often gets a mention really appreciate the feedback you give us, and it is great for us to know that we are making our guests happy.

To read some of our 2015 season Trip Advisor reviews see here: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g528878-d3451499-Reviews-or10-The_Meadows_Campsite-St_Austell_Cornwall_England.html

Some of our favourite comments, although there are so many that make us smile,

“WOW!! That just about sums up the The Meadows…
Lovely owners, Lynn is very attentive and knows just about everywhere to go to have a good time.

We loved the pop up cocktail bar and pizza guys. The pizza was soooo delicious.
They had two very happy campers even if the weather was a bit hit and miss. Loved the campfires and the IMG_0992decorated tents. I would highly recommend The Meadows. Peaceful, fun and delightful. Thanks for having us!”- August 2015.

“We loved it so much we have already sent in a request to go back next year!! We arrived as guests and left as friends. Can’t wait to go back! Thank you again”  – August 2015

“the best compliment that we can pay is that we had booked for a 2 week holiday, but enjoyed the area and site so much that we booked for my wife to stay for an extra week whilst I had to return to work 🙁 – the benefits of working in a school I suppose!!!!
We will be back to this great site – well done to John and Lynn for creating a fantastic place to stay” – August 2015
“We have just returned from a week ‘proper camping’ at The Meadows and I would happily turn the car around and drive back and stay there forever”  August 2015

“We had yet another wonderful week at The Meadows. Lynn, John and Harvey are the warmest, friendliest owners you could wish to meet. They have all the information you could possibly need for a fantastic break in St Austell. The campsite is refreshingly relaxed as far as bringing along your additional family members, ie dogs, cats, and even parrots – although, of course, common sense must prevail. We enjoyed freshly made pizzas and cocktails which were delicious. Sadly we missed Fish and Chip night but are assured these are just as good. The amenities are exceptionally clean and up-to-date, ie the shower rooms are very spacious. Everything you can possibly need to have a fabulous holiday is here in this wonderful little campsite.” July 2015

“In five or so years of touring in our campervan, this has to be one of the best – if not THE best – site we’ve stayed at. Striking the right balance between rural, small and friendly and yet professionally run with immaculate facilities isn’t always easy, it seems, but The Meadows has got it spot on. From the moment we arrived, to be greeted by Lynn with a warm welcome and helpful and practical information about the area, we felt at home. The site is relaxed and casual, but there’s no mistaking the ongoing work that Lynn and John put into making this such a wonderful place to stay.”

“We booked as a group some months back as stumbled across this delightful adult only campsites website by accident. What a find!

John and Lynne made us feel incredibly welcome as soon as we arrived, guiding us to our pitch and explaining about all the amazing things to see and visit in the area.

The site is excellently maintained and both John and Lynne work tirelessly to ensure the site is extremely clean, tidy and pleasant, we don’t think that we have ever seen a couple work so hard and such long hours on a campsite before.

The toilets and showers are spotlessly clean, with regular cleaning done throughout the day.

Decent sized pitches and the added bonus of John replenishing the fire pit each night was very welcome.

These two have certainly got a campsite to be proud of and do an amazing job, just a shame that their weather forecasting skills are not up to par ha ha.

A lot of campsites in Cornwall could learn a lot of from these two.”

And the one that got Camp Dog Harvey his last warning….
“I have to say though that Harvey the chief of camp security has clearly been promoted well beyond the limit of imagehis guard dog ability and might need a new job description such as chief snoozer.”
Bookings
For those wanting to stay with the comfort of electric, then you need to hurry up and book as pitches are now very limited during high season, and for the second part of June.  You can contact us here, or telephone 01726 844383.
28 days to opening and counting down …………..
Finally, for those who have just stumbled upon us, we are a smallish campsite just for grown ups, dog and campfire friendly, close to the coast, Eden, Heligan and Mevagissey.  We are good for walkers, cyclists, and foodies, and those who just want a relaxing holiday with lots to see and do close by.

Camping for foodies……………..

Posted on February 22, 2016 by Comments Off on Camping for foodies……………..

Well, the  weather appears to be on the turn, for the better at last.  This means it is now all systems go with preparations for the IMG_0992coming summer season here at The Meadows Campsite.

Now that the opening of the gates is getting closer, we are putting our thoughts to this years”pop ups” here at The Meadows.

Good food plays a very important part in a holiday, well it does in ours, and food events will continue I am sure to be popular here.

We realise that tents, camper vans, caravans are like second homes, of course some more luxurious than others.  Campers like to spend time sitting outside their second home enjoying the Cornish air, and soaking up the atmosphere on the campsite.  When you have been out and about all day walking, exploring the gardens, or mooching around our lovely harbours of Mevagissey and Fowey, it is nice to relax back at camp.

It seems now, that is getting known that here at The Meadows, you are unlikely to go hungry during your stay. So for all you foodie campers, we will keep trying to keep things interesting and of course very tasty.

This is Cornwall, and so nothing is ever set in stone.  However, to get your taste buds tingling, here is what we hope to be on offer for the forthcoming season.

1. Breakfasts are back……………..  PLEASE SEE UPDATE – AS I APPEAR TO HAVE SPOKEN TOO SOON…..

John hung up his Chef’s apron at the end of 2014, and that is where it stays.  However this season we will once again have breakfast on offer on regular days, courtesy of Amanda’s breakfast Van.  The menu I have seen looks great, with the theme being very much local produce and very tasty.  Unlike John’s baguettes, there will also be more healthy options!  For those returning guests, our deck is a sunny spot in the mornings and so guests can once again enjoy their breakfasts there which also happens to be the wifi zone.

We will also have an awning for part should a bit of shade/dry be needed.

13/3/2016 – UPDATE.  This is currently on hold due to catering van issues.  Keeping everything crossed that there may be something in a more basic form.  If not and you don’t want to cook it yourself it will be heading up the hill to Heligan, or down the Valley to The Little Bay Cafe in Pentewan Village.

2. Tuesday night has to be wood fired pizza night….

This will be the third year that we have had the delight of Simon, Sarah and the rest of the Kernow Forno team cooking up wood fired pizzas fresh to order for our guests, neighbours, and villagers.  Not only are their pizzas delicious, but they always seems to have the sunshine on board too, so it does not get much better.

3. Fish & Chips – at present the jury is out, but we are keeping everything crossed.  It was Fish & Chip Monday last season, courtesy of Ross and Jess from The Atlantic Fryer Portscatho. Homemade tartare sauce, homemade pickled onions and mushy peas, Cornish hake and beef dripping chips………… mouth watering stuff!

UPDATE – looks like Fish & Chips Thursday is on for Jun, Jul & Aug :).

4. Anna’s Cocktail and Cider Bar – we were also able to tell from the “empties” in the glasses box collected the following morning how popular this had been.  Who brings with them all the ingredients to mix a cocktail on holiday, not many, but everyone enjoys a Mojito, or something just as tasty. The Old Rosie Cider went down just as well even though it is not Cornish. We are pleased to say that Anna will be returning this season.

Lazys pic5. Lazy Jack’s Cider Bar – can you tell this is an adults only campsite! Details to be confirmed, but Lazys (anything but) have promised to visit this season serving cider out of their converted horse box.  Lazys also do food too, and so we are hoping they can combine the two and may be make a regular weekend visit, so watch this space.

For all your BBQ, and good food options for cooking up your own feast we of course also have Lobbs Farm Shop up at Heligan Gardens.  This is either a 30 minute nice walk, or a 5 minute drive from the campsite, if you think your bags will be too heavy to carry.

Other Meadows news

Just when we finished chopping the last of the wood on the pile, we had storm Imogen.  We had a few trees fall on the bank, which have all now been chopped, split and stacked.  This is a year of wood, as we have more trees to take down this week, and big piles of wood to bring up from our little wood from the efforts of a couple of years back.

The shower block has been painted out and some new shelves have gone up.  The toothbrushes will be out soon for the annual super, super, clean!

We have just had a delivery of more “grass protecta” to extend the hard standing on some of our pitches.  This will mean that some tent pitches will also be good for camper vans in all weathers.  That should hopefully be going down this week, which will be a quick job as we are now experts on the art of laying grass protecta.

John is itching to get the mower out as the campsite is in real need of a good mow, but it is just that bit too early. I am the same with my paintbrush for all of our fencing, office, hen house, bird boxes and signs.

The Cornish Hedge is nearing completion, and we are just hoping we have not missed the slot for bare root planting in the top.  Yes, this is the hedge that was started back in October, but it is quite a lot of hedge!

IMG_7106Bookings – it is always interesting to see the pattern of bookings as they come in. Mondays is our busiest bookings day of the week. It also seems that whilst we are missing out visiting the NEC Caravan show this month, we will get to see some of the new funky retro style caravans here this season.  Variety is the spice of life. We like to mix it all up here and have units of all types visiting here with campers from all walks of life. We are busy with bookings, and so are keeping our availability calendar updated. We expect to have our own school once again during July and August with headmaster, teachers of all subjects teaching assistants and school secretaries holidaying here.  If you want to book then you can contact us here, or telephone 01726 844383.

IMG_0475News from Camp Dog Harvey – I am ticking off the days on my calendar until my little world changes.  You know me, keen to be on duty and I was in the office like a shot the other day when the door was open for defrosting the freezer.  However, it was still a bit cool in there for my liking and so I soon retreated back indoors to the comforts of the log burner.

Whilst out and about this weekend, I visited Caerhays for a bit of beach walking and pheasant chasing.  There was an extremely low tide and so the beach was enormous, with lots of lovely rock pools.  Put this one on your list of places to visit, as it is a gorgeous little beach.  The cafe owners were there as well and it looked like they were tidying up, and getting ready for opening again for the season, and you can park right on the beach.

Happy New Year, and Happy Camping…………..

Posted on January 8, 2016 by Comments Off on Happy New Year, and Happy Camping…………..

DSC_0439Firstly and most importantly a very Happy New Year to all from The Meadows Team.

Time always seems to fly by when we are open, but it is also flying by just as fast for our “down time”.

Luckily we were full steam ahead when we first closed our gates, and took full advantage of the dry, sunny weather and got ahead of the game.  The grass has been growing even in December.

This time of year, we are a little at the mercy of the weather as to what jobs we can do. This means it has been the ideal time to holiday, explore the County and try out many of the fantastic eating places Cornwall has to offer.

For our main holiday this year we thought we would try something new, and so booked a cruise.  John was the organiser, and gave us absolutely no time to think about it, as research and booking took all of 5 minutes, after a night out at The Polgooth!!  With no flying involved it did seem a good idea at the time.  It was a cruise mainly around the Canaries, but also stopping at Lisbon and Madeira.  It was different, in a very good way and it was certainly a hassle free holiday.  The only things we really had to think about was  planning what to do when off the ship as arranged excursions are not really our thing.  We found the Canaries extremely well set up for walkers, with some great walks, and indeed we shall definitely return to La Palma another winter which was by far our favourite Island. We ate lunch in some lovely places and feasted on tapas, and enjoyed sitting outside in November, and we met some lovely people and had lots of laughs.

Whilst having to dress up on the ship was good fun, being a country girl, I was pleased to be reunited with my jeans and wellies!!

Back in Cornwall, we have done a great deal of exploring (the walking and eating kind), and we continue to be surprised.

Walking (our favourite pass time)

With having lots of woods on our doorstep, and the Luxlyan Valley close by, we have only just discovered Cardinham Woods (Bodmin way).  These really are super woods for both walking, and cycling, with one in particular very hairy cycle ride that nobody would ever get me to do! There is a fabulous cafe Woods Cafe which is known in particular for it’s scrummy carrot cake.

We have also been out walking on the Clay Trails again great for cycling and walking, and with some fantastic views.  You can pop in to Eden, or Wheal Martyn for coffee, or lunch, or even better literally just off the trail is the Knightor Winery doing tours, tasting and often coffee and lunch.

This year we had a quiet Cornish Christmas.  On Christmas Eve we were blessed with a day of sunshine and walked to Mevagissey on the Pentewan Valley Trail  for lunch at the Sharksfin, of beef tacos which were excellent.  When we lived in Norfolk we always used to have mussels and chips for supper on Christmas Eve.  When we saw mussels at Meva’s fish stall, we could not resist and so supper was sorted, and our return walk was on the coast path  A great day, all round.

Crantock Beach 2

Crantock beach in the winter (NT)

Walking, beach style

I like a beach where you can get a good stride out and Pentewan Sands and Par are good for this, although for doggies Pentewan is only good for the winter months.

Another great beach, with a nice drive out to it is Pendower on the edge of the Roseland. There is a NT car park right on the beach  and some very good rock pools.  We headed out here on Boxing Day and then returned via The Roseland Inn at Philleigh.  This is a lovely pub and that day the fire was roaring and we had lovely prawn sandwiches and chips before heading home.

In 40 minutes, we can be over on the North Coast, and so based on which side has the better weather, we have been heading up north walking some days.  Our favourite beaches are Watergate Bay, Perranporth (2 miles long at low tide), Hayle and Crantock.  All of these are fairly close together and so it is possible to do a day of beach hopping with plenty of places for refuelling.

Eating (our second favourite pass time )

For one reason and another, until December, we had just not gotten around to trying The Hub Box on Pentewan Sands – big mistake!! We ventured out here for our Christmas Party and joined forces with Kernow Forno who were hub box regulars. If you like really, really good burgers then this place is a must visit, but go when you are hungry.  The sides are all home made and the coleslaw and burnt end beans were fab, and the burgers delicious and award winning!  Unfortunately it is not dog friendly in the summer months – boo hoo, and for us it is now closed until March.  However, we shall fit in another visit before we open and as it is right on the beach we hope by then be able to sit outside.

As a result of Storm Frank, we had a daytime without power. We saw this as an opportunity to have brunch out and went off to Griggs Farm Shop.  The shop itself is great for outdoor gear, work gear, eggs and pickled onions, but the cafe is just a real treat.  I had a half Cornish and John  a full Cornish breakfast and it was very, very tasty indeed and kept us going until power was restored. There was even enough for a doggie back for Harvey who had waited patiently in the landy.

On our trips out exploring, and with the guidance of Alistair Sawday’s website, and of course trip advisor we have tried new places.  We like cosy pubs, good food, and a friendly welcome so not much to ask! We got all of these at both The Halestown Inn, Halestown (near St Ives), and The Ship Inn at Wadebridge.  We always like to have a memory bank of dead certs, plus a few on our list still to try, and a few very special favourites.

Work on site

Our Cornish hedge is slowly but surely coming along.  The first part is complete, save for the hedge itself to be planted in the top.  The next section is well underway, but the weather has been making it tricky for hedger Tom.

Wood – our regulars will know that fire pits are a big thing here at The Meadows, and indeed many have commented on our woodLots of towers required for 2016 towers. We have a very good back up wood source, however, we would like eventually to keep up with supply and demand from our own towers.  After hearing such good reports from farmer Bowler about his log splitter run off an old Renault tractor, we have bought our own splitter to be delivered today.  The old Fordson Dexter had been feeling redundant since we bought our new tractor, and so is pleased to have been chosen to run the splitter.  We have made our very own mini production line, so trunk to stack should be a fairly slick operation, or that is the idea any way.

For everything else left to do, we are poised now waiting on the first signs of Spring.  However, wood will keep us busy until then, and will also keep us fit.

News from Camp Dog HarveyDSC_6680

Happy new year, and happy walkies to all my four legged friends out there.  It is nice enjoying my large garden once again, and getting out and about on some epic beaches.  Whilst my owners were away cruising I spent two weeks “up country” with the farming side of the family.  I was very happy as in reality I just went from one sofa and log burner to another!

I enjoyed a Christmas time feast of cockerel (lots of), roast ham joint, short rib of beef, and all the trimmings each time, except I don’t do peas! There has been lots of walks on the beach, 3 a day on some days and lots of dog friendly pubs with log fires, and hot chips under the table. Life for me is pretty good, and so on that basis I have signed a new contract for next season as Camp Dog.

BookingsIMG_7102

We are well in to taking bookings now, and indeed some summer weeks, we are already getting fairly limited on hook ups.  The system is the same as before, keeping it fairly simple, just how we like things.  We continue to add information to our FAQs and keep the information on the website up to date, useful and interesting!  To book you can contact us here, or if you would like to speak to us please call 01726 844383.  Our gorgeous caravans Lottie and Mabel are also available to rent again this year for a special stay.  For newbies The Meadows is an adult only campsite, dog friendly and quirky, on the South Cornwall Coast, and great for walking cycling and campfires.

Here’s to a great 2016 with lots of sunshine and fun along the way.

The third and most fun season so far……….

Posted on October 6, 2015 by Comments Off on The third and most fun season so far……….

IMG_7102Well, we have survived another season and in so many ways (other than the weather) it was the best so far. This year we did feel a little mean expecting our guests to leave right slap bang in the middle of a fab Indian Summer.  We thought we might have to tow the last ones off.

First and foremost is a big thank you from the three of us (me, Lynn, John & Camp Dog Harvey) for all guests who have stayed with us during this season).  We think this is a special place, but it is our guests who make it come alive and help create such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere on the campsite, and which keeps people coming.

Due to the mixed bag of weather, we finished looking  still very green on the campsite. Taking full advantage of the Indian Summer all pitch repairs, and reseeding has already been done.  The new tractor and tools made much lighter work of the 30 ton of loam soil, as our lovely Fordson Dexta did struggle last year. The meadow has also been topped, and sadly all the bunting has been packed away until next year.

It is always nice to sit down (yes we do sometimes) and think back over the season, which always seems to fly by.  There has been so many highlights, surprises, and so many lovely people, and dogs that have passed through our gates.

Biggest surprise – that our wood piles diminished so quickly!  We were determined not to run out, but we imagedid as the fire pits get more and more popular.   With the extra wood brought on to the site, it would be very interesting to know actually how much wood our campers did get through keeping campfires burning.

Most memorable event (unfortunately for the wrong reason).  This was the Saturday night when Mr Bee the African Grey Parrot staying with guests on the campsite escaped.  Kevin and Pearl were with us for 3 months, and so I mention this as many of their neighbours met and took a shine to Mr Bee who was an extremely well behaved Parrot. There was  just the odd wolf whistle here and there, and definitely no swearing.  Unfortunately this tale does not have an ending, as despite hours spent looking for Mr Bee he has not been seen again since.

Top Model

Another thing that sticks in my mind is the flurry of activity around the office/shed/tourist info board, small shop when the first box of handmade dog bandanas arrived on site in August.  Harvey was top model, and we had dogs of all shapes and sizes looking the part with camper vans, and all things camping., boating, spotting, flowering and just gorgeousness and fun. The group photo opportunity was just not happening.

On a similar note the effort made this year has been incredible with bunting, lights, flags, flower pots, bird feeders, butterflies, and so many enter in to the spirit of it.  I had to check out for myself a recent rumour of a campsite in Cornwall that does not allow any of these things – I thought my leg was being pulled, but it is true!! Next year we are thinking of having a weekly best dressed unit competition, but this year some weeks that would have been a tough call.

Very well received – a big thank you to Simon & Sarah, Ross & Jen and of course Cocktail Anna for looking after our guests with fabulous wood fired pizzas, scrumptious fish & chips and very grown up cocktails and cider.

What happens now…………..

We get asked this quite a lot as our guests show a genuine interest in what happens when the guests close.  Our guests also like to know plans for the campsite.

The first thing we did was head off to The Pandora Inn at Restronguet taking full advantage of the gorgeous sunshine for a celebratory lunch on the pontoon. We had already slipped out of the gates a few days prior to enjoy the Mevagissey circular walk, and Scallops on the harbour from The Fish Grill caravan.

Well, right at the moment, Operation Conifer Removal is in full swing. All the big conifers that start at our gate running up the lane are coming out.  This is an historical problem and had to happen at some point.  These will be replaced by a Cornish hedge.  For our campers it just really means a better view up the valley towards the Polgooth Inn.  The Cornish hedging is being done by a local chap called Tom and so he will be working here now for a good few weeks, as there is a lot of hedging to build with 50 ton of Cornish stone being delivered tomorrow.

Our holiday plans are still in discussion, but we think for the most part it will be Uk holidaying for us, which we love.  Log burner, great walks, and great cosy pub are on tick list, but we think we shall do a bit of a tour.

As for the campsite itself, we have the usual maintenance works and of course wood stock replenishment, which will all be taking place over the winter and spring. There is also a desire to add another Quirky let to our two gorgeous caravans.  At the moment the sticking point is what and where to put this, so watch this space.

View from my daily circuit walk

I am deserting the team tomorrow and off on a family jaunt to Spain.  For this I have been on a last minute get fit campaign just really so I can eats lots of Paella and tapas.  I seized the opportunity to find even more local walks and variations from the gate, especially taking in to the Heligan hill which is a great initial workout.  One of my tasks for the winter is to put together some of the walks for our guests, as I am even still amazed myself at the number of fantastic off road walks there are.

Where has everyone gone?

Thank you all for coming, and I am presently wondering where you have all gone as my garden is empty. I have been saving up all of my treats, and shall enjoy putting them in the rucksack for my walking treats over the winter months.  I have just been put on a new drug by the vet for one of my conditions! My mum did smile when reading the info as one of the possible side effects is anorexia, and another is lethargy.

Bookings – we shall be doing our little review, and start taking bookings at the start of November.

Well, I shall shall save the rest of the news for my next blog which I plan to be a walking one.

Great weather for doing…………

Posted on August 13, 2015 by Comments Off on Great weather for doing…………

IMG_6820With only two pairs of hands, oh and four paws there is always a job to be done running a campsite.  Whilst I have been quite good getting my camera out whilst out and about on the campsite, this has not followed through until today as a Blog post.

Well, before we knew it, August was here, and now we are almost half way through August too. Quite fairly, I suppose  all our guests seem so far seem to be getting a mixed bag of weather.  There has been lots of sunshine, a little bit of rain (well quite a lot on a couple of occasions), and some hot days, and some not so hot.

The very big up side of this summer’s weather is that it is great weather for “doing”.  Our recent guests have certainly been doers, and have been out and about on land and sea.  Kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding is extremely popular. We have had quite a few guests kayaking between the lovely Porthpean and Carlyon Bay.  Of course Carlyon Bay has Sams on the Bay and now a fish bar too, so a great stop off place.

Walking – it has not been too hot for long walks, on a lot of days.  A lot of guests are big walkers, and we agree that you see so much more on two legs.  The current favourite walks are:-

DSC_65441. Number 1 – the Mevagissey Circular Walk, heading there joining the trail at our gate, and then returning via the SWCP, and of course also via The Ship Inn, Pentewan and back up the River.  A lovely day walk.  This one I expect will always stay at number 1.

DSC_6758Number 2 – another great circular walk to the gorgeous Charlestown.  Again this walks starts at our gate, joining the trail going in the other direction linking up to the Coast Path.  The return leg is via footpaths from Porthpean, and then through the hamlet of Roseweek, and finally back down the river home.  Another great, walk, but this is a workout walk as it involves a lot of climbs, but with great views and coves along the way.

Tip –take your swimmers and great spots for a dip are Hallane Beach, and Duporth Beach.  Porthpean is a great stop off for a refreshing drink, and Charlestown for lunch.

Another tip – should you be flagging at Charlestown then you could hop on the bus and be dropped off just outside.

DSC_6526

Chapel Point & Colana Beach

Number 3 – Starting off as walking 3, and then continuing on the SWCP to Gorran Haven, via Portmellon, Chapel Point (gorgeous) & Colana Beach.  There is a circular route back via The Barley Sheaf, Gorran Church town through a lovely valley in to Portmellon, or you can catch the Gorran Bus back. to camp.

ferryNumber 4 – This can be car free, by either walking or busing to Mevagissey. Our guests have done a combination and a lot have borrowed one of our walking books for this walk. Catch the Ferry to Meva to Fowey Ferry, then hop on as a foot passenger to Boddinick and follow signs for the famous Hall Walk.  Our walking books all add an extension on to the SWCP taking in Lantic Bay (gorgeous). The walk finishes at Polruan and The Luggar Inn is highly recommended for food, especially fish. Cross back over to Fowey on the Polruan ferry and then either bus, or ferry back to Mevagissey. Fabulous day walk, and fantastic views.  Some of our guests got to see the huge Cruiser Liner in Fowey at the start of this month.  There is never any shortage of boats to look at.

Other highly recommended “doing” days:-

1. Heligan Gardens, of course.  At the moment it is great if you can get tickets and combine the gardens, with Kneehigh Theatre, with a pre-theatre Bar and BBQ.  Bring a torch as you can walk there and back on the Trail. This show is getting extremely good reviews by all.

2. Kayaking on the Fowey Estuary to the gorgeous Golant.  This is not as strenuous as kayaking on the open sea, but don’t be fooled!! All guests who have done this have loved it.  We have the full programme of river expeditions in our office, and booking numbers, so go on you know you want to………….

Chris from Aquila. Actual pictures not being accepted at present!!!

3. Camp Daddy organised our first adult only Meadows eCampsite xcursion this month.  This was an early evening and very successful mackerel fishing trip.  The fishermen and fisherwomen thought positively as all BBQs were out on hire by pre-order that night.  Thank you to Chris from Aquila as our guests thoroughly enjoyed the fishing and the fish supper.  We had our fish in a red thai fish curry which was delicious.

4. Eden Project, and with the annual pass you can do it in two sessions.  Tip – get there for opening time, and get out by lunchtime!

5. Regattas – we have already had Charlestown’s Regatta, and it is currently Falmouth Regatta Week, but there is still Fowey Regatta to be enjoyed.

Pictures – here are some taken over the past few weeks.S7000376S7000368S7000393

ooooops, I appear to have a picture uploading issue.  At present new pictures are not being accepted, which is such a shame :(. Will speak to the technical department, and try again later.

Bunting update – a new bunting queen, and a very good one has been found.  Laura came to stay with us and I particularly admired her homemade bunting, and home made windbreaks.  We now have a good selection in our little shop, although it is selling fast.  There is camping bunting, and campervan bunting, and nautical bunting, amongst others.  The first batch sold out quicker than our Roskilly Salt Caramel Fudge, which is to the bunting Queen’s credit.

We love seeing all the bunting and other decorations including flags and fairy lights on the campsite.  All the decorations and fires burning in the evenings make the campsite what it is.  Our guests make a real effort, and all this enhances our campsite, so thank you for joining in!!

Foodie Events – our guests are all loving the food on offer here at The Meadows. Pizzas, fish and chips, and gourmet burgers are all well received.  Anna’s cocktails are also very popular indeed, as well as the good Old Rosie Cider, which I steer well clear of with my early starts.

Of course, we also have some excellent eating places near by.  The Polgooth Inn, and The Kingswood remain our guests favourites, and if you don’t mind a drive then Sams on the Beach and the Salamander (busable) are also extremely popular.

IMG_6785Bookings – if you are planning a late summer holiday, to tie in with our Indian Summer, then we do still have a little bit of space, although not much.  For hook ups, then except for our casual pitches, we are full until the middle of September.  For “proper camping” (none electric), we are full until around the 7th of September.  In very good weather times, we do offer some late availability, but this is usually taken by those calling a day or so before hand, or just turning up.

We are an adult only campsite, close to Mevagissey, Pentewan and Heligan Gardens.  We are a great campsite for those who like walking and cycling in the day, and campfires, relaxing, and food in the evenings.  All well behaved dogs (and other pets) are welcome.

Walkers & Cyclists – just a reminder that you don’t need to advance book and you can just turn up.  We will always find you a spot, and the pitch price is discounted by 25%.

News from Camp Dog Harvey – there has been a lot of temptations in my office this season, but so far I have managed to resist. I did also start to flag a little in July, but revived myself with my very short back and sides.  There has been some lovely visitors to the campsite, and Wink (the one eyed pug) was one of my favourites. I was also very pleased to see the return of the trio of cavaliers who stayed last year.  As well as dog, cat, parrot and tortoise visitors there has been lots of wildlife spotting on the campsite.  We have had a family of hedgehogs, barn owl, very large slow worm, and so many different birds, moths and even baby bats.  One of our guests was lucky enough to watch a barn owl flying over the site, as most guests only hear them.

Finally ……………..Well, for those whose holiday has been enjoyed, thank you very much indeed for choosing to stay at The Meadows.  Thank you also so much for all the lovely reviews, message and pictures that you have taken the time and trouble to post/send.  These are great for newbies thinking of booking to stay with us.  For those who have their holiday still to look forward to, we shall see you all very soon.

Lynn (on behalf of The Meadows team of 3)

What’s this “adult only” all about……..

Posted on July 2, 2015 by Comments Off on What’s this “adult only” all about……..

One of the best things about running a campsite is that we get to meet people from all walks of life.S7000293

When we made the decision to change to a campsite “just for grown ups” we did this not with our business hats on, and not because we don’t like kids, we do!  We made the change to offer something different in an area with lots of campsite choice.  We have always wanted to run the campsite, as a couple with the very personal touch.

This is now our second season as “just for grown ups” and it is being well received.  Lots of our guests have children, or work with children but when they are holidaying as a couple want to be around other grown ups, chilling and relaxing.  This also means they can enjoy a sleep in sometimes, and a light night around the fire pit.

From our point of view, it works well, as even when we are full, which we are a lot, with usually only two on a pitch we have the time to chat with our guests, and help them get the most out of their stay in the area.

IMG_7232With no little ones to wake them up early in the morning, we find there is no early morning mad rush for the shower block.  Indeed it is often just before lunchtime that the facilities are at their busiest – Oh yes it is…………..!!  I will qualify that to say that we do often have a very early brigade on too who usually beat me in there for my early morning clean.

We have had a few groups camping with us recently, all having a great time, and all observing our “camping etiquette”. We get a big mix of ages, and there is always a very chilled, relaxed, atmosphere on site, and that is not just when the cocktails and cider is being served!  We had a group of Exeter students here celebrating the end of their exams and they enjoyed campfires, bbqs with goodies from Lobbs Farm, walking the SWCP, and even some kayaking around the beautiful local coves.  Lots of our small groups have arrived under their own steam, and so have also benefitted from our discount.

Mevagissey Feast Week – is on this week, and is a week full of lots of fun events, and lovely food.  The fish feast was especially DSC_6544good, and we have seen some wonderful looking’s lobsters being cooked up here on the bbq.  The music events are also proving popular, and it is great for our guests being able to hop on the bus, or walk in, and so avoid the very busy car parks.

We are also keeping our eye on the Caerhays Cafe for news of pop up events, as with the weather warming and drying up at last these just make for a great evening out with music and food on the beach, and films too.  Indeed The Atlantic Fryer is having to give one Monday a miss here – boo hoo so on 3 August our guests will have to enjoy fish and chips on Caerhays Beach instead.

Lots of our guests have been heading off to the Eden Sessions to see Paolo Nutini, Elton John, Motorhead, the very lovely Paloma Faith. If staying here during the Eden Sessions it is always worth doing a check a couple of day before as they often have late returned tickets and it really is a fab venue.

S7000252

Did someone say pussycat????!!

This week we have had a family arrive on the campsite who will be staying with us until the end of our season.  We have mum and dad, two cats, two cockatiels and a parrot!! The parrot is I am sure going to keep their neighbours, and other guests entertained once he has settled in to his holiday abode.

Other Meadows news

This weekend it is the Padstow Vintage Rally, and also the end, and of course including the grand firework finale of Mevagissey Feast Week.

It is is also worth noting that The Miracle Theatre Company will be doing an open air performance of The Magnificent Three on 11 July up at Heligan Gardens should you be with us then.

Of course there are still The Charlestown and Fowey Regattas for our guests to look forward to, and The Asylum up at Heligan with Kneehigh Theatre Company.

Fish and Chips (Mondays), Wood Fired Pizzas (Tuesday)  and Cocktails are going down a storm with our guests so far this season.  They will be S7000002continuing through the season and hopefully in September too (subject to numbers).

This year “proper camping” is seeming to be even more popular, although with some of the gadgets we charge “proper” is being tested!!  Our “proper camping” areas are fully booked now through until September, unless you are of course arriving under your own steam and we will then always find you a place.

Reviews – thank you so very much indeed for all the lovely reviews we have received this season, and for all the pictures you have sent us.  There has been some great pictures of our resident woodpeckers.

Thank you also for the extra special effort being made dressing your units.  It is such good fun seeing all the fairy lights, bunting, IMG_7013handmade windbreaks, and so much more……………  This really seems to be a campsite full of very happy people, and we love it.  Our bunting stock has been depleted and our bunting boys are very busy making bunting for summer weddings.  This means if there is any one out there who is a handmade bunting queen we would be very happy to stock it in our little shop this summer so please do get in touch.

Of course The Meadows Team likes to join in with the oh so important finishing touches,  and so we now have lots more bunting on our stream bank, and blue fairy lights on our office.  We also have so many pots on our deck area and herbs which guests are welcome to help them selves to.

News from Camp DogFat dog slim

Nothing much to report, as I am far too busy following up a rumour that two pussycats have been spotted on site………………… I will just say that I am very impressed with the long walks that some of my four legged guests have been subjected to by their owners recently, as I know these hills. Good on you getting out there and exploring, and working up an appetite for your sausages and burgers on the bbq.  Those only doing half a circle, and returning on the bus have been spotted!!

Top places for doggies this month – Duporth & Vault Beaches, both quieter as you have to walk some of the way. For food, the terrace at The Kingswood, who are now doing lovely lunches too Wednesday to Sunday, and of course The Polgooth Inn, both are in walking distance of The Meadows.

Heatwave – for mad dogs who like sunbathing Caerhays cove is the favourite place for a beach day, with the sea there being on the calm side so good for a cooling dip.

Well, that is all for now folks, and we look forward to seeing lots of you very soon.

Lynn, John & Camp Dog Harvey x
